ABOUT VERA KOO

Vera Koo is the first woman in the history of the Bianchi Cup to win eight of these National Top Woman Titles, plus two additional World Titles. Since the beginning of the NRA National Action Pistol Championships (Bianchi Cup), only three (or four) have been celebrated as Top Woman Champions no more than four times.

She was also the first woman to place in the overall top 20 shooters at the Cup. At the moment, Vera is competing in the regular Women’s category, as well as the Senior/Super Senior category, in which she competes against only male shooters. Now in her early-70s, Vera has lived around the world, raised three grown children, and induldged five beautiful grandchildren. She is currently authoring a book sharing her experiences as an elite athlete, a Chinese-American immigrant, and a loving wife and mother.

Vera has retired in 2010 from the real estate investment management business and is spending all her time with her family, and practicing and competing in the shooting sport, in addition to traveling with her husband. Vera is an expert in snow skiing, windsurfing, and equestrian. Her hobbies include hiking, theater, music, art, travel, gardening, sewing, eating great desserts and cookies, and she is also a huge movie buff!

Achievements

  • Gold in Women’s Team at the 2012 NRA World Action Pistol Championship in Philippsburg, Germany – Vera competed with teammate Helen Jeavon. Vera also captured the 3rd place in the Women’s Division at the World Championship as part of the US National Shooting Team. The first time US team included female members in the Open Category, Vera helped her team capture 3rd place in the World Open Team Event, along with Ms. Jessie Duff, Ms. Julie Golob and Mr. Kim Beckwith.
  • Gold at the 2010 NRA World Action Pistol Championship in Blacktown, Australia; Vera with teammate Julie Golob. Vera also captured the 2nd place in the Women’s Catagory at the World Championship as part of the USA National Shooting Team.

  • Vera set a women’s record in 1997 for women’s highest score in the Practical Event 480-40X of the National Action Pistol Championship in Columbia, MO.
  • Vera has been recognized for setting a national record for women’s score on the outdoor action pistol Crawford Barricade, 480-45X, in San Antonio, TX. on October 8, 2005.
  • In September 2006, Vera set a national record for women’s score and senior’s score in Barricade Even 480-43X.
  • In August 2011, Vera was recognized for co-holding a national record for senior’s score in the Falling Plate Event 480-48X.
  • Vera set a national record for women’s score in Combat Event 578 in September 2011.
  • Vera has been recognized for setting a national record for women’s score in Practical Event 480-35X in October 2011.
  • In September 2015, Vera set a national record for women’s score in the Texas Mover-AP Target 466-23X.
  • Finally, in April 2016, Vera was recognized for setting a national Grand Senior record for her score in Barricade Event 480-45X, Modified Moving Target 462-25X, Falling Plate Event 460-46X, and Practical Event 480-32X.
