The Most Unlikely Champion by Vera Koo is a true example of what we can achieve if we are strong enough to do what needs to be done and persistent enough.

Throughout this story, Vera Koo takes us on an adventure starting from her traditional Chinese background where she was instructed to serve her family, and she was advised by her mother to focus on her inner beauty because of being not so beautiful, to winning Bianchi Cups and different tournaments in the male-dominant world of shooting. Being lucky enough to have a hyperactive husband, she was involved in different kinds of sports, including hiking, skiing, windsurfing, horse-riding, and camping that prepared her for the pressure of shooting tournaments. She tells us how she experienced the loss of her child, broke her legs while practicing for the Bianchi Cup, almost gave up on her marriage, and helped her husband in business. She takes us throughout her journey to win the Bianchi Cup eight times and various tournaments with her determination and persistence.

The most inspiring thing about this book is how beautifully she allows me to delve into life, describing herself as a child, wife, daughter, friend, mother, and sports shooter. She sets her goals and is persistent in achieving them. This is an inspiring story of a woman who tried to achieve her goal when her colleagues were retiring. Despite her increasing age, she continued persistently giving me the lesson of never giving up. She describes various terms of shooting in the book that entertain me. She proves that shooting is not just a game; it can be a way of life to improve ourselves. Another interesting thing that I have seen throughout the book is patience. Either in the case of her injury, betrayal of her husband, abuse of her father-in-law, or practising for the shooting or unbearable pain of death of her son. In all these conditions, she can be seen so patient providing support to her family.

Straightforward and Captivating

There is nothing I disliked about the book. Moreover, her writing style is straightforward and captivating, forcing me to read just in one sitting. Pictures added to the book helps me visualize the scenes.

There are no grammatical errors, proving this book is exceptionally edited. I found no profanity or erotic language. As a result, I gladly award this memoir 4 out of 4 stars.

I would say this book is for everyone who wants to derive inspiration or the ones that lack the courage or pulling force to pursue their dreams. Women will find it an excellent choice for them. Everyone who has a thrust of motivation and life lessons can read this book, as it is stacked with such material.
