This review, originally published at Online Book Club, and written by Elsa_Lee, marvels at Vera Koo’s unwavering faith, even when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Read on to hear why the reviewer has such a high opinion of Vera’s character.
Everyone who knows Vera Koo knows that she is a world-renowned athlete in a sport mostly for men. It’s often seen as violent and dangerous. Vera grew up in a traditional Chinese home where such sports were not encouraged for women. Vera wasn’t born a natural shooter like some athletes are. In fact, she was afraid of guns. So she enrolled in a weapon safety course to face her fears. She worked hard and trained diligently until she became a great shooter. Vera tells her story with great reflection and emotion in her first book, The Most Unlikely Champion: A Memoir. Despite everything she’s been through, her tale is one of hope, love, compassion, and forgiveness. Vera demonstrates how the same strength that made her an international-level athlete also helped her find joy.
When I finally have some free time, I always find myself reading Vera Koo’s amazing memoir, The Most Unlikely Champion: A Memoir. Even though Vera Koo is a professional shooting athlete and world champion, this book isn’t just about that. This book is really about how one great woman overcame seemingly insurmountable challenges to become the person she is today. Vera’s story is one of grit, determination, and resilience in the face of impossible odds, and it’s an inspiration to anyone who reads it. Other than that, I must admit I love the author’s writing style. Reading the beautiful words written in this book made me feel like I was having a real afternoon coffee with her and she was telling me about her experiences and challenges to become the person she is today in person. The writing is easy to read, making it easy for me to understand, and holding my full attention to the story the entire time. Furthermore, I also love how the author wrote about her unshakeable faith in God and how she depends on God for her life. I think her faith in God would be a great influence on her audiences to put their faith in the Lord. On top of everything, the book has been professionally edited with great care. I couldn’t spot any easy errors or typos during my reading.
Unwavering Faith
Additionally, Vera Koo’s memoir is heartwarming and inspirational. I couldn’t find anything negative, hurtful, or otherwise distasteful. Vera’s story is inspirational for anyone, regardless of race or gender. Vera’s story is a powerful reminder that no matter where you come from or what obstacles you face, with hard work, determination, and faith in God, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
I give this book my highest rating of 4 out of 4 stars for how the author delivers an important message to her audience with candor and vulnerability, sharing her own story. Everyone could benefit from reading this book.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about Vera Koo’s history and life. Christian readers will be especially interested because of Vera’s unwavering faith in God, even in the face of unimaginable hardship.
